Meet Nuria, Backend Developer at Luscii

As a backend developer at Luscii, Nuria plays a vital role in helping our platform grow smoothly as we scale across regions. From optimising performance to adapting to localisation needs, her work ensures that patients and clinicians alike experience fast, seamless care—no matter where they are.

Why did you join Luscii?

The vacancy at Luscii immediately stood out to me because of its unique culture: a flat organisation driving innovation in the healthcare industry? That sounded amazing! After over a year here, I’ve experienced the company’s values in action—how freedom sparks energy, how distributed decision-making enables speed and focus, and how genuinely caring for people creates a safe and fun environment.

I’m excited to keep contributing to a product that makes a positive impact on society and has the ambition to transform how healthcare is delivered on a global scale.

What kind of challenges do you solve?

Scaling comes with its own set of challenges. What works well for a small number of users doesn’t always hold up as traffic grows or new regions come on board. We’ve had to address performance degradation, handle localisation (like time zones), and make tough decisions—sometimes optimising bottlenecks, sometimes refactoring entire parts of the codebase.

The code you write today becomes legacy tomorrow. So ongoing maintenance and adaptability are key to keeping Luscii healthy and future-proof.

What impact does your work have?

One of the biggest contributions our team has made is improving how patient measurements are scheduled. We've introduced flexible timeframes—ranging from hours to weeks—and features like backfilling, so patients have more freedom in when they submit data.

We’ve also enhanced scheduling tools for nurses, giving them more flexibility to tailor care pathways for each individual. These improvements directly support more personalised, responsive care.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Luscii?

I really appreciate the freedom to shape my own accountabilities. While backend development is my main focus, I also take on roles related to team and company culture, which keeps my work interesting and aligned with my values.

The role system brings a lot of clarity and trust—everyone knows what’s expected, and we’re empowered to contribute where we can add the most value. Plus, the 4-day workweek and flexibility around when and where I work make it much easier to maintain a healthy balance.

Any advice for someone thinking about joining?

If you’re someone who values taking ownership, making an impact, and adapting to change, Luscii is a place where you can truly thrive. We’re scaling fast, and there are always interesting, meaningful challenges to solve.
